# Third-party and separate-license notices

OpenHaldex is a mixed-license project. This file records separate copyright,
license, and provenance boundaries; it does not place all listed material under
one license.

## SignalScope / Chris

SignalScope is Chris / Bored Systems' independent, reusable CAN framework. The
generic engine is licensed under the MIT License in
`LICENSES/SIGNALSCOPE-MIT.txt`.

The current OpenHaldex application uses SignalScope for CAN ingress, DBC decode,
declarative mutation, replay, caching, recording, and forwarding.

## OpenHaldex / A Banging Donk

A Banging Donk originated the public OpenHaldex platform and foundational Gen 1
control work. The current public repository does not contain a license file.
This project preserves attribution but does not invent a license on the
author's behalf. Any direct reuse must rely on permission actually granted by
the author or on a separately licensed downstream expression.

During development, portions of the current Gen 5 compatibility package were
translated with reference to this MIT-licensed source. The copyright and
license text are therefore retained with distributed legal notices for that
package until its remaining compatibility expressions are independently
re-derived and verified against primary DBC/capture evidence.

This is a license-compliance notice, not product credit or endorsement. It does
not assert ownership of Volkswagen Group CAN facts, message identifiers,
signal mappings, captured observations, Chris's independent vehicle
validation, or the current SignalScope/OpenHaldex SS implementation.

Gen 2 and Gen 4 compatibility in this edition were independently validated
against Bored Systems' DBC library and vehicle evidence and are not attributed
to this source. The current diagnostic pressure calibration and normalized
output table are likewise part of the OpenHaldex SS diagnostic/calibration
implementation, not credited to this source.

Previously published S3 source and S3-authored material already received under
MIT remain under that grant. The current proprietary application license does
not revoke rights in those earlier copies.

## Velonic Admin UI / Techzaa

The OpenHaldex firmware interface in `data/` includes selected and customized
assets derived from the Velonic Admin template by Techzaa, licensed through
ThemeForest for this end product.

Velonic-derived assets remain subject to the purchased ThemeForest license.
They are not licensed under MIT or the OpenHaldex personal binary grant and may
not be extracted or redistributed as a standalone template or stock asset. The
full Velonic package, PHP demos, documentation, and unused components are not
part of this project.

## Firmware and browser dependencies

The build and UI include separately licensed libraries and assets, including
Arduino-ESP32/ESP-IDF components, ArduinoJson, autowp-mcp2515, Bootstrap,
Chart.js, fonts, and icon sets. Copyright and license notices embedded in those
packages continue to apply.

A proprietary binary release must preserve all required notices and satisfy the
applicable object-code/relinking obligations, including any LGPL-covered
Arduino-ESP32 components. This notice is not a substitute for the release's
complete dependency inventory.

## DBC and OEM diagnostic data

`protected-sources/dbc/vw_pq35_46_acan_v5.20.6.dbc` was generated from a
Volkswagen K-Matrix workbook. The other raw DBC definitions under
`protected-sources/dbc/` and the normalized diagnostic library at
`protected-sources/diag/diagnostic-library.json.gz` are likewise build-only
sources. The diagnostic library and generated firmware projections were built
from ODIS/MCD/ASAM project resources and captured diagnostic evidence. Those
facts establish technical provenance, not redistribution permission.

The raw DBC and diagnostic sources are not copied into the LittleFS `data/`
tree. The production build transforms them into packed DBC databases and
bounded diagnostic query records inside an authenticated firmware-embedded
asset pack. This packaging boundary does not create or expand redistribution
rights in the underlying definitions.

The project license does not relicense Volkswagen, Audi, ODIS, ASAM, or other
OEM-derived definitions. Their distribution rights must be reviewed before a
public firmware/filesystem package is published. Keeping the application
source private does not by itself grant rights to distribute embedded data.

## Trademarks and affiliation

Volkswagen, Audi, Haldex, ODIS, VCDS, LILYGO, Velonic, Techzaa, and other
names belong to their respective owners. Names are used
for compatibility, provenance, or identification. OpenHaldex is not sponsored
by or affiliated with those parties.
