OPENHALDEX MIXED LICENSE NOTICE

This project combines separately licensed components. Possession of the source
tree does not place the entire tree under one license.

1. SIGNALSCOPE FRAMEWORK - MIT LICENSE

The reusable SignalScope framework is Chris's work and is licensed under the
MIT License in LICENSES/SIGNALSCOPE-MIT.txt. In this tree that grant applies to:

- core/**
- fs/**
- main.cpp
- ARCH.md
- docs/SIGNALSCOPE_API.md
- data/assets/js/signalscope-*.js
- tests/diagnostic_transport_host.cpp
- tests/diagnostic_transport_embedded.cpp
- tests/mutation_pipeline_embedded.cpp
- tests/gateway_queue_embedded.cpp
- tests/signal_catalog_embedded.cpp
- tests/session_log_parser_test.py
- tests/session_log_architecture_test.py
- tests/signal_catalog_contract_test.py
- any additional file that explicitly says it is part of the MIT-licensed
  SignalScope framework

The SignalScope MIT grant is Chris / Bored Systems' independent grant and does
not place the OpenHaldex SS application under the MIT License.

2. OPENHALDEX APPLICATION - PROPRIETARY

Except for the exclusions in sections 1, 3, and 4, Chris's original OpenHaldex
application layer is proprietary. This includes apps/openhaldex/**, original
OpenHaldex-specific UI code and integration in data/**, project-specific tests
and tools, and OpenHaldex documentation. No source-code license is granted.

Permission is granted to a natural person to download and run an unmodified
official compiled OpenHaldex firmware release, free of charge, on personally
owned hardware for personal, non-commercial experimental or off-road use. The
normal UI may be used to change settings, maps, rules exposed as user settings,
and saved profiles.

Without separate written permission, this personal binary grant does not allow
commercial use, resale, redistribution, paid installation, source publication,
copying or adaptation of proprietary application code, removal of notices, or
incorporation into another product or service. Reverse engineering or
decompilation of the proprietary application is not licensed except where
applicable law makes such a restriction unenforceable.

3. HISTORICAL AND SEPARATELY LICENSED PORTIONS

Historical expressions still carried in the current Gen 5 compatibility
package retain the applicable upstream MIT notice identified in
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md until they are independently re-derived and verified.
Chris's earlier OpenHaldex-S3 MIT notice also remains available in LICENSES/.
Nothing in section 2 removes rights already granted under those licenses.

Those notices apply to copyrightable portions received under the corresponding
license. They do not claim private ownership of Volkswagen Group CAN facts,
message identifiers, signal mappings, captured vehicle observations, or
Chris's independent validation and current implementation.

The original OpenHaldex/Gen 1 work by A Banging Donk is credited in
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md. That repository does not currently contain a license
file, so this project does not invent or assert a license on the author's
behalf.

4. THIRD-PARTY ASSETS, LIBRARIES, AND DATA

Velonic/Techzaa assets, fonts, icons, browser libraries, embedded dependencies,
DBC files, OEM-derived diagnostic definitions, and other third-party material
are not relicensed by this notice. Their original licenses, purchased terms,
copyrights, or provenance restrictions continue to apply. See
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and data/LICENSE.md.

No permission to redistribute Volkswagen/ODIS-derived data is created merely
by bundling it in this private development tree. Distribution rights for those
artifacts must be established separately before a public release.

5. PREVIOUS RELEASES

This notice applies prospectively to the original work covered by it. It does
not revoke or narrow permissions for any copy previously distributed under the
MIT License or another valid license.

6. NO WARRANTY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALL ORIGINAL SOFTWARE AND FIRMWARE ARE
PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, VEHICLE
COMPATIBILITY, OR SAFETY. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE
LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, VEHICLE DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR OTHER
LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE SOFTWARE, FIRMWARE, HARDWARE, INSTALLATION, OR USE.

No trademark or endorsement right is granted. OpenHaldex is an independent
project and is not affiliated with Volkswagen Group or any vehicle
manufacturer.
